Bute Shinty Club’s first team lost 2-1 away to Glasgow Mid Argyll on Saturday in the Marine Harvest National Division.

Craig Anderson’s strike gave GMA the interval advantage, and though Chris McGowan levelled for the islanders with his fourth goal of the season early in the second half, Anderson’s second on just after the hour mark ensured full points for the home side.

Despite the result, the margin of the defeat suggests more signs of small but steady progress for Bute, who lost 4-1 against the same opposition in the Macaulay Cup only two weeks ago.

The game was originally due to be played in Rothesay but was moved to GMA’s home ground at Peterson Park in Yoker due to forecast heavy rain.

* Bute’s second team, meanwhile, were idle on Saturday after that heavy rain forced the postponement of their Sutherland Cup second round tie at home to Lochside Rovers.

Both the Meadows and the alternative venue at Ganavan near Oban were declared unplayable after early morning pitch inspections; the fixture will be rescheduled for a later date.
