Bute Shinty Club’s first team became the first side to be knocked out of the 2013 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup when they fell to a 4-1 defeat against Caberfeidh in Strathpeffer on Saturday.
Things were looking good for the island team after their long trip north when James Craig’s strike in the 38th minute gave them the half-time lead in the only preliminary round tie in this season’s competition.
But Ali MacLennan wiped out the visitors’ avantage in the first minute of the second half, and Craig Morrison completed the fightback when he gave the hosts the lead five minutes later.
MacLennan’s second on 75 minutes put one Caberfeidh foot in the first round proper, and Jamie McIntosh put the icing on the cake for the hosts - and confirmed a measure of revenge after Bute’s 2-1 win when the sides last met, in the 2011 Balliemore Cup final - when he added a fourth with virtually the last hit of the game.
Caberfeidh will now host Oban Celtic in the first round of the competition on Saturday, May 4.
