TWO goals in three minutes in the closing stages of the game earned Bute Shinty Club’s second team a 2-1 home win over Ballachulish in Marine Harvest South Division Two on Saturday.

The island side trailed at the break thanks to Garry Young’s goal for the visitors midway through the first half, but despite enjoying the lion’s share of the possession after the interval, Bute remained behind going into the last quarter of an hour.

But those furrowed brows were replaced by smiles when a good ball in from the wing found Ali Carmichael in space in the 76th minute, and the veteran unleashed a beauty from 30 yards which gave Ballachulish keeper David MacPhee no chance.

And the visitors paid the price for more slack marking two minutes later, when another pass from wide on the right picked out Gordon McMillan, who turned and lashed home the winning goal from 20 yards’ range.

* Bute’s first team remain without a league win so far in 2012 after Lewis MacLennan’s 73rd-minute strike gave Glenurquhart a 1-0 win at Drumnadrochit in the Orion Group Premiership on Saturday.

* Next Saturday, April 14, Bute’s first team are at home to Kingussie in the Orion Group Premiership, while the Bute second team travel to Tayforth in Marine Harvest South Division Two.

Both matches are due to get under way at 2.30pm.
