The coach of Bute Shinty Club’s second team says he’s raring to go ahead of the first round of 2013 league fixtures this Saturday.

David Kilpatrick told The Buteman he was hugely encouraged by the evidence of a bounce game at the Meadows last Saturday between the Bute first and second teams.

And though his charges face a tough opening league match away to Ballachulish this Saturday, Kilpatrick said he was looking forward to seeing how the reshaped Bute second string coped at Jubilee Park - in a game which will be several players’ first competitive shinty fixture.

“I’m really looking forward to Saturday,” he said.

“[Last Saturday] was a great run-out for all the boys, and you could see they, and the club, are heading in the right direction.

“Ballachulish away will be a hard game - they’ll be strong this year, but it’s going to be really exciting.”

* Bute’s first team have no game this Saturday after the new season’s fixture list handed them a free week on the opening day; their first game is at home to Glenorchy on March 9.
