Bute Shinty Club’s first team coach has praised his players after watching them squeeze through their first cup challenge of the new campaign on Saturday.

Gordon McMillan and John MacCallum found the net in a penalty shoot-out on Saturday as Bute triumphed 2-1 after a goalless draw away to Glenorchy in the first round of the Gregor Cameron Consultancy Celtic Society Cup.

“The boys did very well,” Ted McDonald said.

“The pitch was in a pretty difficult condition, and it was a good, hard game - Glenorchy were a good, strong team, and they’ll be hard to beat at home this season.

“It was anyone’s game to win, although in the last half an hour we were definitely on top - we just couldn’t score.”
