Bute Shinty Club’s first team are aiming to keep their South Division One title bid on course this Saturday in the second half of a league double-header against Glenorchy.

Goals from Neil McKirdy (35 mins), Iain McDonald (55 mins and 79 mins) and David Whitelaw (85 mins) secured a 4-0 win for the islanders away to the Dalmally side last Saturday, with the rematch in Rothesay to come this Saturday, August 22.

Last Saturday’s win put Bute four points behind Inveraray’s table-topping second team, but Bute have four games in hand on the leaders and a substantially superior goal difference.

Bute manager Ted McDonald said: “It was a good all round performance and we dominated most of the game.

“If we keep playing like that then hopefully we’ll make up that four point deficit.

“Winning the league would be a great achievement for the boys, but we’re not counting our chickens before they’re hatched.”

* This Saturday’s home fixture against Glenorchy gets under way at 1pm - earlier than usual, due to the Bute Highland Games.

Bute’s second team fixture last Saturday against Oban Lorn was postponed; the club’s second team have no game this weekend.”
