Pupils from Bute’s three primary schools showed off their newly-acquired rugby skills on Friday at the island’s second P7 ‘tag rugby’ festival.
The festival was the culmination of several weeks of coaching delivered at Rothesay, St Andrew’s and North Bute primary schools by Bute Rugby Club as its players aims to spread the rugby gospel around the island following the club’s reformation last year.
The day’s prize, the Iain Scott Trohpy, was retained by Rothesay Primary, whose Rothesay 3 team beat North Bute in a keenly-contested final - though the smiles on the faces of all those who took part confirmed that the day’s main aim, to spread word of the rugby bug, was a resounding success.
We’ll have plenty of pictures from Friday’s festival in the next issue of The Buteman, on sale from Thursday, April 10. Meanwhile, next up on Bute’s rugby calendar is Bute Rugby Club’s first ever ten-a-side festival, being played on Saturday, April 26 - more info on that to come very soon!
