Andy Fielding, seen here in action for Bute against TRI Rugby on September 7, scored the new Argyll and Bute RFC's only points in a 17-3 defeat against Cowal in Rothesay on Saturday, September 13, 2014.

Andy Fielding scored the only points for Argyll and Bute RFC as the new combined area team lost 17-3 to Cowal in Rothesay on Saturday in their first game in BT West Division 4.

A team comprised entirely of Bute RFC players and their friends and team-mates from the local shinty and football clubs put up a brave defensive showing, conceding only one first half try against a Cowal side with several years’ experience of league rugby to trail 5-0 at the break.

But the visitors’ experience of playing together as a unit won them two further tries in the second half, one of them converted, with Fielding getting the new club’s first points on the board in the form of a solitary penalty.

Cowal continued to press for the fourth try which would have earned them a bonus point, but A&B’s exemplary tackling denied the visitors all the spoils.
