Bute’s mini rugby players received certificates this week marking the end of a busy season in which they’ve picked up lots of new skills.

The certificates - recognising improvement in ball handling, tackling, passing and tag rugby - were presented by Bute Rugby Club sponsor George Hanson after the penultimate training session of the season on Sunday, at which Stewart Kennedy, from Edinbeg farm near Port Bannatyne, was named as the club’s mini player of the year.

Sunday’s presentation followed a successful annual dinner for the club’s adult players the previous evening, when Paul McBride won the player of the year prize, while Jordan Lyon was named as the players’ player of the year and John Digney picked up the award for most improved player.

Family tag rugby sessions continue at the rugby field behind Rothesay Leisure Centre each Friday night at 6pm throughout the summer.
