A depleted Bute team headed to near neighbours Cowal RFC on Saturday to enjoy a great day of summer rugby in the glorious Dunoon sunshine.
With some players still enjoying their holidays, and a few injuries, the Bute squad was bolstered with a few Cowal players who, in the spirit of the game, agreed to wear the Bute blue and yellow.
Both teams joined together for a training session working on various components of the game and then played a 60-minute game.
The game itself was a tough affair, playing in 22 degrees of heat, and both teams were evenly matched.
The bulk of the Bute pack and the flair of the backs kept the score pretty even for the first half, and the half time score was 14-7 in Cowal’s favour.
Only after a few changes at half time did the Cowal team start to show their experience of playing together, with the final score being 36-12 to the hosts.
A lot of positives can be taken from the game with both teams looking forward to the return fixture on Saturday, August 10.
This Saturday, August 10, Bute host a touring team from Allan Glens RFC. The meet time for players is 1pm at the Shinty Club. Kick off is at 2pm and spectators are welcome.
