Pupils from Bute’s three primary schools took part in a fast, fun and frantic tag rugby festival at Rothesay Joint Campus on Thursday.

Eight teams of ten pupils from North Bute, St Andrew’s and Rothesay primary schools - the Dragons, Falcons, Eagles, Warriors, Vikings, Pirates, Cowboys and Gladiators - showed off their skills after six weeks of taster sessions led by coaches from the recently-reformed Bute Rugby Club.

Thursday’s festival was also attended by the SRU’s local rugby development officer, Allan Wright, who was part of th e Oban Lorne RFC team which won the RBS Bowl at Murrayfield Stadium last month - demonstrating just how far you can go in a rugby shirt if you have the talent and the dedication!

The tournament was won by the Dragons, who beat the Cowboys in a thrilling final, while the player of the tournament prize went to Carrie McGorm - although the huge grins on the faces of the participants showed just how much of a success the event was for all those who took part.
