Rugby: Bute back in action at Helensburgh sevens

Bute Rugby Club returned to action on Saturday at the Helensburgh RFC sevens tournament - the club’s first competitive action since the 2010-11 season.

The honour of scoring the first try for the reborn Bute club fell to Ben Robinson, who crossed the line for the islanders in a 41-10 loss to the Mighty Maos in Bute’s third group game following scoreless defeats to Loch Lomond and GHK; Robinson converted his own try, while Colin Fulcher added a drop goal.

Bute’s day ended in a 15-15 draw with the University of the West of Scotland in the wooden spoon final, but despite the results the whole team appeared to enjoy the experience.
