The first game of the Bowls Scotland Senior competition was held on Wednesday, May 21, and at the end of a hard day’s bowling on various greens saw Rothesay’s Senior Ladies Fours, Gents Senior Fours, Mixed Pairs, and two Senior Gents Singles all progress to the next round, to be played on Wednesday, May 28.
This week sees another busy one for the club. On Saturday, May 31, the Gents’ team visit Lochwinnoch Bowling Club to compete in the Bute Cup, and on Sunday, June 1, both Ladies and Gents Singles Pairs, Triples, and Rinks compete in Bowls Scotland Ties.
Monday, June 2, will see the 90th playing of the County Cup take place on the Rothesay green. This trophy, donated by Mr Weir in 1904, is the oldest of the Buteshire Events, and is competed for by bowling clubs within the old county of Bute. It was first competed for by Kingarth Bowling Club, St Blane’s Bowling Club, Millport Bowling Club, Craigmore Bowling Club, Ardbeg Bowling Club, and Rothesay Bowling Club, but now, only our three local clubs take part.
