Another successful equestrian year for Bute was celebrated on Saturday at Bute Pony and Riding Club’s annual prize-giving.

More than 50 trophies were presented for jumping, showing, gymkhana points and more, while outgoing committee chair Pamela Ballantyne reserved special praise for the club’s younger riders, who, she said, had “excelled themselves” during the course of the year.

Among the prizes presented were the Nadia’s Trophy for the champion of champions at the club’s annual championship show, which went to Kirsty Ewing, and the overall points prizes for the year, combining points awarded for Handy Pony, dressage and showing, which were won by Olivia Whitelaw (lead rein), Sophie Whitelaw (junior), Andrew McMillan (intermediate) and Marissa Ballantyne (senior) - while Sophie Whitelaw also won the Nadia’s Trophy for the highest overall points total in any category throughout the season.
