Nine Bute pool players set off from Rothesay on Friday afternoon to compete in the Scottish Pool Association’s annual Super Elevens league competition.

The Isle of Bute Pool League team is one of 48 from throughout Scotland taking part in the Premier Division and First Division competitions, with the Bute team playing in one of four groups of six in the latter section.

Captain Mike McHardy and team-mates Scott Hatton, Chez Harrison, Richard Reid, John McBride, Gordon McMillan, Robbie Docherty, Chrissy Lawrence and Marcus Allan were joined at Craig Tara in Ayr by Colin Nicol and Gordon Cumming to complete the line-up.

“Four teams from each group go through to the knockout stages,” Mike told us, “and the other two enter a play-off to avoid relegation to the second division.

“We don’t know who we’ll be playing yet, but the first game is at 7pm tonight, with more being played throughout Saturday.”

The Bute select has been drawn from five of the teams in the Isle of Bute Pool League, with Kingarth 1 providing four players, Mac’s 2 and Struan 2 two apiece, and one each from Struan 1 and Kingarth 2.
