Ten of Bute’s best pool players are in Fife this weekend to represent the island at the Scottish Pool Association’s national five-person team championships.

The Mafia and Fubar will take on opponents from around Scotland in the annual competition at Pettycur Bay holiday park, located between Burntisland and Kinghorn.

The two teams qualified for the national competition after finishing as winners and runners-up respectively in the island’s own five-person team tournament.

The Mafia, comprising Chez Harrison (captain), Duncan Brown, David Speirs, Gordon McMillan and Willie Mullen, have been drawn in Group 1 of the tournament, alongside Glasgow Gigolos, Renzies Rejects, Glasgow Aldo and Motherwell Elite, while Fubar - Mike McHardy (captain), Richie More, Gavin Wilson, Richard Reid and Robbie Docherty - will play in Group 4 against Dunfermline Paul Ward, Clydebank 5, The Underdogs and Norfolk and Chance.

The competition got under way at 7.30pm on Friday.
