The 2012-2013 Isle of Bute Pool League sponsored by Mac’s Bar drew to a close on Thursday, March 21, with Mac’s 2 holding on to first place three points, one match and ten games ahead of league rivals Kingarth 1 who, had themselves lead the league for most of the season.

This seasons individuals are Ladies, Edith MacDonald of the Palace Bar with Mac’s 1 producing both the league individual winner Iain McMurchie and the under 21s individual winner Shaun Kernaghan.

The final of the shield was played out last Thursday between Mac’s 2 and the Galatea team. The first frame of the match between Chez Harrison Mac’s and Kevin Bowie Galatea was initially quite an open game with Kevin potting five of his balls before partially snooker himself on the next which brought his visit at the table to a close.

Chez potted one or two then played safe with a series of snookers denying Kevin any clear shots on his remaining balls. A final safety from Chez after pocketing a few more of his balls left Chez in a position to pot his remaining balls and the black to win the first frame for Mac’s.

The second game was between Gordon Cumming Mac’s and Roy Bowie, this too was quite an open game. Gordon unfortunately fouled with only one of his balls left on the table and Roy who was on the black used that ball to gain position with his free shot and pocket the black to the middle with the next. With the score standing at one a piece the match appeared to be shaping up to be very close, however Mac’s players Sean Lawrence, Alec Greer and Tam McCready all won their respective games against Robert Mitchell, Sean Greer and Willie Mullen, leaving Mac’s 2 captain Stuart McKechnie to seal victory for Mac’s in his game against Scott McGregor, taking his team to a 5-1 win.
