It was hard to believe it was October last Saturday as Rothesay Bowling Club saw the green full of players in short sleeves.

Lovely weather ensured the last match of the 2015 season, the McAlister’s Milk Open Pairs, went very well. This is always a popular competition and is very generously sponsored by Rhona and Ninian McAlister.

It’s always well attended by members and visitors and this year was no different.

The game was played over two sections and there were five prizewinning teams: 5 June Maciver and John “Curly” Black (Colintraive), 4 Nan Reynolds and June Williams (Rothesay), 3 Johnny Walker and Brian McKillop (Rothesay), 2 Alex and Edward (Wellington Park, Greenock), 1 Jock McKirdy and David Reynolds (Rothesay).

A special “booby” prize this year and this went to Julie Gilchrist and Susan Selkirk.

Following the presentation of the prizes, President Johnny thanked those who had travelled to attend today and hoped everyone enjoyed it. As this was the final day of play for the year President Johnny also formally closed the green.

Thanks were given to Julie and Susan for providing lunch, all those who helped in the bar, John Gilchrist for all his help in running all the competitions - not just this one. Johnny also took the opportunity to thank all his council for their support and hard work throughout the outdoor season, both seen and unseen, that keeps the club running.

He thanked the ladies who had helped with catering throughout the summer but he gave special thanks to Jock McKirdy who has been invaluable to him in his first year as Greenkeeper. President Johnny wished everyone a safe journey home and said he hoped to see all again next year.
