The Isle of Bute Pool League, sponsored by Gamba’s Bar, reached its halfway point on Thursday, January 23, with Kingarth 1 accruing a convincing 5 point lead over their closest rivals Golf Club 1 on 22 points.
Even though both these teams have won nine out of their ten matches, Kingarth have gained their significant points advantage by winning more singles and doubles games overall. Struan 1 sitting in third place at the moment have the same points as the Golf Club but have won ten games less.
The Galatea team is lagging behind slightly on 19 points in fourth place after losing their last match to sixth place Struan 2. Meanwhile Golfers 1 recovered from a 2-1 deficit against Golf Club 1 in their singles to lead 4-2 only to lose all their doubles games for a 5-4 defeat. Gamba’s 1 were holding their own sharing the singles against Struan 1 but similarly lost all their doubles games to end in a 6-3 defeat. Gamba’s 2 deserve a mention, starting two games down, a singles and a doubles having only five players on the night but managed to hold off Golf Club 2 in the singles and gain a point in the process but lost out in the doubles for a 5-4 final score.
