Six members of the British Chinese Kickboxing Association’s Scotland branch - all of them based on Bute - recently travelled to Dublin to take part in one of the biggest martial arts tournaments in Europe.

More than 30,000 athletes took part over a single weekend in the 21st Irish Open, a competition run by volunteers to raise funds for the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.

The six competitors from Bute were Chloe Tritschler (recently promoted to assistant coach), Ryan Kean, Steven Dick (assistant coach), Ian MacGillivray, Charlie Sweet and Denise Dick (senior instructor with BCKA Scotland).
