Bute’s primary five and under shinty team sealed their place in the national First Shinty finals with another strong performance in the last round of the Cowal and Bute winter league at the Queen’s Hall in Dunoon on Saturday.

The team was already in a strong position, having won both the previous rounds, and Calum McMillan, Leon McMillan, Marcus Planck, Jack McKirdy, Robin McAlister, Aiden McGregor, Rory McDonald and Gordon Currie, continued to dominate their league, winning three games and drawing two to ensure qualification for the national finals, being played in Fort William on March 1.

The boys played 18 games during the three rounds of the league - played in Dunoon on December 7, Rothesay on January 11 and Dunoon on February 8 - and didn’t suffer a single defeat, which should give them a good confidence boost for the finals.

Bute’s P7 and under team only just missed out on qualification for the finals, finishing in second place in their section behind winners Kyles Athletic, but could Scott Harvey, Campbell Crichton, Andrew and Peter McVey, Josh Cowan and Andrew McLaughlan, could be happy with their overall performance and have improved a great deal over the course of the tournament.
