IN PICTURES - Shinty: Bute 4, Taynuilt 0

Chris McGowan scored twice as Bute Shinty Club’s first team chalked up their first win of the season on Saturday by knocking Taynuilt out of the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup at the Meadows.

McGowan’s double strike midway through the first half settled any nerves in the Bute camp, and Gordon McMillan turned to shoot low past Taynuilt keeper James MacLaren in the 36th minute to end any lingering worries of a cup upset for Bute against their South Division One opponents.

Graham Fisher rounded off a well-worked move started by John MacCallum and continued by James Dunn four minutes into the second half to extend Bute’s advantage, and though there was to be no further scoring, there was still plenty for Bute’s players, and coach David McVey, to be pleased about after a tough start to the campaign which had seen the team lose their first four league and cup fixtures.
