IN PICTURES: Bute’s first ten-a-side rugby festival

Bute Rugby Club’s first ten-a-side tournament took place in Rothesay on Saturday.

Visiting teams from Allan Glen’s, Kilmarnock-based TRI Rugby and an Islay/Kintyre combination joined two Bute sides and a Bute Exiles/Cumbernauld select for the competition, a half-way-house between the full 15-a-side game and the seven-a-side version.

The winners of the inaugural competition and the Mac’s Bar Trophy were Allan Glen’s, who saw off a stiff challenge from a determined Bute team in a closely-fought final, while the third/fourth place play-off for the Kingarth Shield was won by the Bute Exiles, and Kintyre/Islay took the honours in the play=off for fifth and sixth places.

A good crowd enjoyed a highly entertaining afternoon of rugby in (eventually) sunny conditions, and many of the players donned pirate costumes for an after-match tour of Rothesay, ensuring the celebrations would continue long into the night.
