Former Rothesay Academy pupil Zara Kane picked up a bronze medal at the recent Scottish Student Sport trampoline competition.
The event was held at the Musselburgh Sport Centre, and Zara, a first year sports coaching and development student at the Ayr campus of SRUC - Scotland’s Rural College - , secured third place with a score of 44.7, just 0.8 points fewer than the gold medal total.
“I got into trampolining during my last year at secondary school,” Zara said. “I loved it straight away.
“I carried on trampolining when I started at University of Dundee and trained with their club (DUTC). After about a year in DUTC I built enough confidence to start competing.”
For the SSS competition, Zara trained at the University of Glasgow’s trampolining club, and it was her tutor at SRUC, David Hume, who helped her get funding towards her travel costs both for the training and the competition.
David says: “This is a fantastic achievement. Zara is a focused, energetic and highly motivated individual – and clearly a good trampolinist!”
Zara’s planned next step is the next Scottish Student Sport competition, to be held in Glasgow in February.
SRUC was formed in October 2012 in a merger of Barony, Oatridge and Elmwood Colleges and the Scottish Agricultural College.
