Gala day to celebrate sport on Bute

Rothesay Joint Campus will be the venue for a day-long celebration in March of the range and quality of sporting activities available on Bute. Among the organisations taking part will be Bute Rugby Club, which organised a tag rugby festival at the campus for local children in May 2013 after holding taster sessions at the island's three primary school.

A day of events celebrating and promoting the range of sporting activities available on Bute is to be held in Rothesay in the spring.

The gala day will take place at Rothesay Joint Campus on Sunday, March 23 and is intended to include as many of the island’s sports clubs, coaches and initiatives as possible.

The family-focussed event was discussed at a meeting this week of Rothesay’s community sport hub, which is organising the day under the leadership of Argyll and Bute’s community sports hubs officer, Jillian Gibson.

Each of the clubs or organisations involved will be asked to contribute a minimum of one 30-minute coaching session during the course of the day, while the parent councils at North Bute Primary, St Andrew’s Primary and Rothesay Joint Campus have all been invited to get involved by using the day as a fund-raising opportunity, for example through food and drink stalls.

More details of the event, which is aimed at both adults and children with an interest in taking part in sport, or even simply in becoming more active, to follow in the next few weeks.
