The organisers of the annual Isle of Bute Triathlon have announced that the 2014 event will take place on Sunday, May 11.
The format for this year’s triathlon, run as before by the Bute Wheelers cycling club, will be similar to previous year, with the choice of a novice event (swim 16 lengths, road cycle 13km, run 3km) or the full-length sprint event (swim 30 lengths, road cycle 20km, run 5km).
This program is designed as a community event to cater for a wide range of participation, fitness and abilities. If you don’t fancy doing a complete event yourself, team entries are permitted for both novice and sprint events: one swims, one cycles, and one runs, or some variation on this.
You can team up with workmates, family members or friends, take your pet along or even take part in fancy dress - all are welcome, and there’s a race memento for all involved.
In addition, the organisers will again award the Calum Speirs Triathlon Memorial Trophy to the local participant considered to have achieved the most from the event.
To find out more, contact the organisers via the Bute Wheelers website, where you’ll also find a link to online registration for the event.
Murray Doyle from the Wheelers said: “It’s probably not too wise to leave until last minute to enter, as it’s a very popular sport these days – even if you just give us an indication of interest.”
The Bute Wheelers are also intending to organise some fun cycle events on the island as soon as weather warms up a bit - these will be open to all, and will include a treasure-hunt type event and a cycle-introduction event. More details on these coming soon!
