Donnie MacLeod led Donald Kinnear and Nancy Kinnear to victory in the Caldwell Trophy as the new season for Bute Curling Club finally got under way this week.

Following an enforced month-long delay, caused first by technical problems at the Waterfront Leisure Centre in Greenock and then by bad weather disrupting ferry services, conditions on and off the ice were finally ideal for the club’s first competition of 2014-15.

Donnie, Donald and Nancy took on Ron Forrester (skip), Colin Sharp, Margaret MacLeod and Peter Martin in a closely-fought competition, with Donnie and his rink securing victory by the narrow margin of 12 shots to 11 after each rink won one of the day’s two games.
