Four members of Bute Curling Club joined more than 2,500 curlers from 380 clubs in the sport’s Indoor Grand Match recently.

Skip Ron Forrester led Colin Sharp, Donald Kinnear and newcomer Jim Findlay into battle against a rink from Ayrshire’s Symington CC at Braehead, one of 17 venues across the country used for the North v South fixture, played every five years.

Bute opened their account with three shots at the first end but Symington hit back in the second to go 4-3 in front and ended up winners by eight shots to four - though with a warming ‘Clyde Steamer’ after the fourth end, and a couple of drams with the opposition at the close of play, the event was nonetheless viewed as a success by the four Bute players, who are already looking forward to the next event in 2020!
