Donald Kinnear was crowned the best Bute skip in the annual County Cup contest this week - but his performance wasn’t enough to see the islanders bring home the coveted trophy.

This year’s tournament, held at Greenacres Ice Rink, saw curlers from Arran make a welcome return after many years of being unable to compete alongside Bute and Millport, but it was the Cumbrae club who emerged convincing winners on the day, retaining the trophy by amassing 15 points to the seven scored by Bute and the three by Arran.

Bute’s three rinks comprised Colin Colin Sharp (skip), Andy Eccles, Alex Forrest (guest), and Nancy Kinnear; Alec Robertson (skip), Donnie MacLeod, Jan Eccles, and Margaret MacLeod; and Donald Kinnear (skip), Ron Forrester, Bill Stein, and Peter Martin.
