Bute Curling Club’s first action of 2015 ended in a 7-3 defeat to Dunoon Argyle in the qualifying round of the Province Championship at Braehead on Sunday.

Dunoon, skipped by John Adamson, opened up a 4-0 lead after three ends - helped by an errant stone in the second when Bute were sitting in a strong position with two shots counting - and though the Bute rink, comprising Ron Forrester (skip), Donnie MacLeod, Donald Kinnear and Bill Stein, won the fourth and sixth ends, Dunoon remained in control and secured a clear victory with a single shot in the seventh and last end to take two points in the qualifying competition.

Weather and ice permitting, the next fixture for Bute’s curlers is a Greenock Day League game - report next week.
