Bute Curling Club’s team of Ron Forrester (skip), Donald Kinnear, Bill Stein and Peter Martin lost to Dunoon in the first round of the Province Championship at Braehead.

The Bute side looked strong on paper but they were up against an experienced Dunoon rink, skipped by Archie Morton, who began the game very strongly, taking the first three ends to lead by four shots going into the fourth end.

Bute took that end by one shot to close the gap between the sides; however, with Dunoon playing strongly in the fifth and sixth ends to take both ends by three shots, Bute were left trailing badly in spite of playing steadily.

The seventh end also went Dunoon’s way by a single shot and it wasn’t until the final end that Bute put another score on the board, taking the end by two shots - too little too late to put a dent in the opposition’s score and leaving Dunoon to progress to the next round of the competition.
