Curling: Bute lose out in dramatic finish

Bute lost out in a dramatic final two ends in their opening game of the Greenock Day League season against Dunoon.

Bute were skipped by Ron Forrester, fresh from his win in the Millbank Trophy, the first club competition of the season, with Donnie MacLeod, John Middleton and Bill Stein in support against a Dunoon rink skipped by J. Adamson.

Bute took the first end by one shot, with Dunoon doing likewise in the second; the third and fourth followed the same pattern, but the balance of the game changed in the fifth and six ends, with Bute taking a total of four shots to open up a strong position, with a 7-2 lead going into the seventh end.

As in most games, however, victory is never in the bag until the very end, and this proved to be the case for Bute, with Dunoon taking three shots in each end to leave Bute reeling on the wrong end of an 8-7 defeat.
