Curling: Bute lose out in County Cup battle

Bute Curling Club lost out to their local rivals Millport in the annual battle for the County Cup this week.

The three Bute rinks, skipped by Ron Forrester, Donnie MacLeod and Beck Reid, put up a valiant effort at Greenacres ice rink, but the damage was done in the morning session, after which Bute trailed 8-4 following two rounds of games in the round-robin event.

With three wins after lunch required for victory, Bute were always up against it, and in the end Millport’s three rinks, skipped by Alec Forrest, Frank Mapes and Willie McIntyre, closed out an 11-5 win.
