Bute Curling Club’s rink of Ron Forrester (skip), Colin Sharp, Helen Hay and Peter Martin finished third in the first Argyll Province competition of the season in Greenock on November 18.

Bute drew their first game 6-6 against Oban in the battle for the Essi Cup, which was contested by eight clubs from across the Argyll and Bute area, and three shots at the final end gave the islanders an 8-7 win over Dunoon Argyll in their second game.

Bute finished the day as one of three clubs with three points to their name, but when the number of ends won was taken into account the trophy went to Benmore and Kilmun. Bute and Oban both won seven ends during the course of the competition, taking the fight for second place down to the number of shots won, and with 16 shots to Bute’s 14 it was Oban who took the runners-up spot.
