Bute’s curlers failed to trouble the top of the scoreboard in the annual ‘Tappit Hen Trophy’ competition at Braehead ice rink.

The trophy is played for by curling clubs on the Clyde with steamer piers in their home towns, with each club represented by two rinks.

Bute 1, comprising Donald Kinnear (skip), Alec Robertson, Margaret MacLeod and Peter Martin, lost 13-5 to Ardrossan 2 before recovering to beat one of Largs Thistle’s rinks 7-6.

However, Bute 2 - Beck Reid (skip), Donnie MacLeod, Colin Sharp and Nancy Kinnear - fell to two heavy defeats, losing 8-1 to Millport and 14-2 to Gourock.

The trophy was won by Ardrossan, who, as well as taking home the silverware, also have the honour of organising the 2016 competition.
