Bute Curling Club’s attempt to recapture the County Cup from their Millport rivals ended in failure this week after the Cumbrae club ran out convincing winners in the annual contest.

Bute got off to the worst possible start in the first of the day’s three sessions of five-ended games, losing all three games to their island rivals, but Bute battled back to win two of the three games in the second session, with Donnie MacLeod and Colin Sharp the winning skips.

That left Bute needing to win all three games in the final session to have any chance of regaining the trophy, and though Donnie registered his own second win of the day, Millport skips Frank Mapes and Anne Watt ensured their rinks kept their nerve to secure the win which sees the County Cup return to Cumbrae for another year.
