Alec Robertson skipped Donald Kinnear and Jan Eccles to victory in Bute Curling Club’s Caldwell Trophy contest at the Waterfront on November 11.

Alec’s rink took on Ron Forrester (skip), Beck Reid and Nancy Kinnear in the first game, and though Ron took the first end by two shots, Alec’s rink levelled with the same score in the second end.

Ron’s side won the third end with a single, but Alec replied in similar fashion before securing a narrow win with another single in the fifth and last end.

Alec went on to face Colin Sharp (skip), Andy Eccles, Jim Findlay and Peter Martin in what proved another tight match, with all five ends won by single shots and Alec edging to a 3-2 victory.

The last game was a higher-scoring affair, with Colin beating Ron 6-4 - though with two wins to their credit Alec’s rink were clear winners of the Caldwell Trophy.

Bute’s curlers had a more frustrating outing in their latest league game against Gourock: a schedule change forced RonForrester (skip), Donald Kinnear, Bill Stein and John Middleton to hang around for two hours before taking to the ice, and Gourock went on to dominate the game, allowing only one shot to go Bute’s way.

Another club game was played on Sunday, November 15 - more next week.
