A gorgeous sunny afternoon graced Ettrick Bay for the first ever Bute Beach Cricket Festival on Sunday.

Teams from Hillhead and Inverclyde take on the pick of Bute’s cricketing youth under the watchful eye of the slightly older club captain, Richard Harding.

Played to Kwik Cricket rules each of the six-a-side teams started with 200 runs and in the first match Hillhead totalled 248 while a makeshift Inverclyde team replied with 231.

Hillhead then played Bute whose team was made up of 12-year-old Adam Guy, teenagers John Wilson, Jack Deans and Louis Ware plus Steve Mason and Richard Harding. Hillhead batted first and amassed an impressive 265 – convincing winners over the home team which totalled 228.

The day’s events raised just over £200, which will be put towards the provision of sports equipment for our on-going cricket project in the island’s schools over the winter months.
