Bute County Cricket Club could face eviction from their league if a shortage of players forces the team to forfeit more fixtures.

The club has issued an appeal for new players in the hope of ensuring that cricket continues to be played on the island, after being forced to concede successive away fixtures in the WDCU Championship against Alps (Glasgow Accies’ third XI) and Vale of Leven.

Bute’s 2013 season started poorly with two heavy defeats in the Western Cup against Glasgow University and Shawholm, both of whom play in higher leagues than the island club, while their league campaign so far has seen losses at the hands of Inverclyde, Motherwell and Galloway before the concession of their two most recent games.

Anyone interested in joining the club, and helping to keep cricket alive on Bute, should contact Tim Stobart on 07980 801720 or timstobart@yahoo.co.uk and come along to practice at Lade Park (behind the leisure centre) at 7pm on Wednesday evenings - if the weather is OK.
