Bute Country Cricket Club finally won their first game of the season with a seven-wicket victory over Alps at the Lade Park on Saturday.

Captain Mark Crichton finally won the toss and chose to bowl, and his bowlers soon vindicated his choice as Alps were dismissed in the 25 over for just 38 runs, with Mark Crichton returning figures of 13 for three from seven overs, Guy Crichton six for two from three overs, Chris South with eight for one from his five-over spell and Francois Lintermans taking pride of place with four maidens and four wickets for ten runs, with only six scoring shots from his 61 deliveries.

Bute gave Alps a small glimmer of hope when Alan Peacock skied his first ball and was caught for a golden duck, but the hosts soon recovered, with Tim Stobart scoring the winning boundary four to finish on 22 not out as Bute climbed off the bottom of the WDCU Championship table just in time for their home clash with league leaders Vale of Leven at the Lade Park on August 17.
