Bute County Cricket Club are due to travel to Glasgow to play Hillhead on Saturday, July 25.

Bute’s cricketers are itching for a return to action this weekend after a gap in their fixture list for ButeFest and two rain-related cancellations.

The isalnders travel to Glasgow for a WDCU third division fixture against Hillhead at Hughenden - and have been boosted by the addition to their squad of Sri Lankan Rukman Hewage, who has a property on the island and has opted to transfer from Stirling County after watching Bute’s last win against Alps at the Meadows.

“It is great to have Rukman reinforcing our bowling attack,” club captain Richard Harding said.

“We are hoping his skills will have a positive impact for the club and take some of the responsibility off our youngsters like Jack Deans and Saul Sykes who are still developing and having to bowl longer spells than is ideal.”
