Bute County Cricket Club’s hopes of avoiding relegation from the WDCU Championship suffered a major blow on Saturday courtesy of a home defeat to Galloway CC.

Bute had high hopes of a first win of 2013 against a Galloway side which had failed to win on the road so far this year, but for the second week running the islanders were undone by a batting collapse, which this time saw Bute slump to 92 all out after just 32 of their allotted 50 overs.

Galloway’s response wasn’t without its hiccups, but the visitors kept their cool sufficiently to tie up victory at 96 for six in the 29th over, leaving Bute rooted to the bottom of the Championship table with just one round of matches to play.
