BUTE Shinty Club’s senior team have been drawn at home to South Division One rivals Glasgow Mid Argyll in the second round of the Camanachd Cup.
The draw, which was made at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow on Monday lunchtime, has handed Bute an excellent chance of qualifying for the last eight - although memories are still fresh in the Bute camp of the teams’ last meeting in Rothesay, a 3-1 defeat for the islanders in July of last year which played a large part in Bute’s relegation from the Premier League.
The June 4 tie will form the second instalment of a league and cup double header for the two clubs, who meet at Peterson Park on league duty on May 28.
The draw has opened up some intriguing possibilities for some of the sport’s smaller teams after holders Fort William were handed a tough second round tie away to Newtonmore.
Premier League leaders Kyles Athletic face a tricky tie away to Argyll rivals Oban Camanachd, while Taynuilt, making their first appearance at this stage of the competition, have been rewarded for their first round win away to Inverness with a plum tie at home to the mighty Kingussie.
The full Camanachd Cup second round draw is as follows: Taynuilt v Kingussie, Oban Camanachd v Kyles, Lochcarron v Kilmallie, Inveraray v Lochaber, Glenorchy v Lovat, Newtonmore v Fort William, Kinlochshiel v Glenurquhart, Bute v Glasgow Mid Argyll.
Ties to be played on Saturday, June 4.
