Liam Poole’s strike and a Neil McKirdy double earned Bute’s second team a 3-0 victory at Aberdour on Saturday in their first league game of 2014.

A young Bute team showed no ill effects from their weather-enforced lack of pre-season match practice as they put the Fife side to the sword with a solid team display.

Bute quickly imposing themselves on the game, and keeper Bob McKechnie had little to do in the first half, while Ruairaidh Soane controlled the centre and Adam Stirling and Scott Dunn played well on the wings.

The visitors were only able to take a 1-0 lead into the interval, courtesy of Poole’s well-placed first time shot from a Graham Fisher lay-off - but McKirdy’s brace after the interval - the first a tap-in, the second a well-taken shot into the far corner after giving his marker the slip - ensured the final score more accurately reflected the 90 minutes’ play.
