The first games in this season’s Greenock Day League were played at the Waterfront on Wednesday, October 9.
A Bute rink of Donald Kinnear (skip), Donnie MacLeod, Margaret MacLeod and Douglas Macdonald took to the ice against a strong Dunoon side skipped by Archie Morton.
Archie and his rink made the better start to the game, taking the first two ends by single shots. The Bute curlers redeemed themselves in the third end, taking 2 shots to level the score to 2 shots each.
Dunoon, however, continued to play well and add single shots at the fourth and fifth ends to lead by 4 shots to 2. A strong end at the sixth gave the Dunoon curlers an additional 3 shots to make Bute’s situation even less tenable, but the final two ends of the game saw Bute taking single shots in both to give the local side a healthier score.
Dunoon took this first game by 7 shots to 4.
Coming up later in the month are both Province and Day League games.
