Bute curlers travelled to Greenock last week to face a Gourock rink in a league game.

A Bute rink travelled to Greenock on Wednesday, December 2, to play in a regular league game.

In recent weeks the local rink has not fared well in league games so Donald Kinnear (skip), Ron Forrester, Bill Stein, and John Middleton, were hoping to improve on previous results.

Bute was drawn against a Gourock side, always challenging opponents and with a strong skip in J. McDougall.

The first two ends proved to be fairly uneventful with Bute taking the first end by a single shot and Gourock answering with one shot in the second end.

The third end proved to be another winner for Gourock but their score of 4 shots lengthened the gap between the sides.

Nothing daunted Donald and his rink pulled together and took the following three ends of the match to go into the lead in the sixth end by 6 shots to 5.

However, Gourock responded by taking the following end by 1 shot to level the scores once again.

With all the play for things began to look bleak for Bute in the final end with Gourock sitting with four stones counting however with his final stone Donald played well to lie on shot taking the game by 7 shots to 6.

A buoyant Bute side were delighted with their well-deserved win with each member of the rink having played well throughout the game.

Coming up is a Province game followed by a club competition for the Bank of Scotland Trophy.
