The Rothesay Bowling Club trio of Ian Downie, Johnny Walker and David McMurchie cruised to victory in the final of the Bute Bowling Association’s Easton Triples tournament this week.

Having booked their place with a narrow 15-12 win over the Ardbeg triple of Iain Duncan, Gordon Peacock and Jimmy Gilmour two nights previously, the Rothesay players had a rather easier time of it against Craigmore’s Iain Tait, Mike Whaley and Frank Hepburn: they had seven shots on the board before Craigmore were able to register a single shot of their own, and with the gap between the teams growing to 18 shots, the Craigmore players conceded defeat with just ten of the scheduled 15 ends played.

The BBA’s gents’ knockout competitions now take a back seat for a week due to the organisation’s annual open tournament, being played at the Ardbeg, Craigmore and Rothesay greens from Monday, August 9 onwards.

The open tournament finals will be played at Ardbeg on Saturday, August 15.
