Rothesay Bowling Club won the first Bute Bowling Association competition of the season, the McMillan Cup, with victory over Ardbeg in the final at Craigmore this week.

The Rothesay rink of Dino Zavaroni, Willie Whiteford, David Reynolds and skip Haig Reynolds made a strong start against Ardbeg’s Brian MacKillop, Iain Duncan, Ronnie McCrae and skip Fred Baker, winning the first three ends, and though Ardbeg hit back with a five at the fifth end on their way to a 10-3 lead, Rothesay scored consistently well to close out a 23-17 win with five shots over the final two ends.

The trophy was presented by Hugh Yeamans, president of Craigmore Bowling Club.
