Rothesay Bowling Club celebrated the 130th birthday of the Ballochgoy green with a friendly match against Cardonald Bowling Club on Saturday.
The very first match on the Rothesay green was played on Saturday, July 12, 1884, and Cardonald’s celebration of their own club’s centenary this year made the occasion particularly special.
Forty bowlers took to the green, undeterred by the rain overhead and wet conditions underfoot, with five Rothesay rinks playing five Cardonald rinks, and the smiles were on the home club’s players at the end of the day as Rothesay finished with eight points and 67 points against the visitors’ two points and 47 shots.
The highest-up Cardonald rink was skipped by ‘on-loan’ Rothesay player Stuart Gilchrist, while the highest-up Rothesay rink was skipped by David McMurchie.
