Rothesay Bowling Club’s run of success in the annual series of Bute Bowling Association competitions continued this week in the MacRae Cup mixed pairs competition.

Following victory in the gents’ competitions for the McMillan Cup and Hicks Pairs trophy, Haig and Joan Reynolds extended Rothesay’s rule with an 18-8 win over Brian MacKillop and Christine McLean in the MacRae Cup final at Craigmore.

The Rothesay pair took singles at the first two ends, and though Brian and Christine levelled the match at 2-2 after four ends, Haig and Joan moved into a 10-2 lead over the four ends that followed.

It was a lead they would never relinquish, and though the Ardbeg pair took three shots at the 14th end, by then their opponents already had 13 shots on the board, and Haig and Joan finished with a flourish, adding four more at the 16th end to extend their winning margin to ten shots.
